Marcellus Emission Inventory

Hourly emission inventories for methane, ethane, VOCs, and NOx in the Marcellus Shale

This dataset provides hourly emission inventories for methane, ethane, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and NOx emissions in the Marcellus Shale for the year 2023. Emissions are reported at 3 spatial scales:

  • Basin level: emissions are aggregated across the entire basin by hour by source.

  • County level: emissions are aggregated for two case study counties (Bradford, Pennsylvania, and Wetzel, West Virginia) by hour by source. The locations of the two counties are shown on the map below.

  • Grid cell level: emissions are aggregated within four selected grid cells by hour by source; two grid cells are located in Bradford, PA, and two in Wetzel, WV. Each grid cell measures 4 km by 4 km.

Figure: Inventory domain overlapped by 4 km by 4 km grid cells. Well sites, midstream sites, and flares included in the inventory simulation are shown. Locations of the two case study counties, Bradford, PA, and Wetzel, WV, are also shown on the map.
